Localization is to adapt a\u00a0 product or service to another particular language, culture and desired local\u00a0 “look-and-feel.”<\/p>\n

Localization is also known as “l10n” in short, where 10 is the number of\u00a0 letters between ‘l’ and ‘n’.<\/p>\n

Localization is often deemed only as a synonym for translation. But in reality, it is a far more complex issue. In addition to language translation, it can entail customization related to:<\/p>\n

  • Numeric, date and time formats<\/li>\n
  • Use of currency<\/li>\n
  • Keyboard usage<\/li>\n
  • Collation and sorting<\/li>\n
  • Symbols, icons and colors<\/li>\n
  • Text and graphics containing references to objects, actions or ideas which,\u00a0 in a given culture, may be subject to misinterpretation or viewed as\u00a0 insensitive.<\/li>\n
  • Varying legal requirements<\/li>\n
  • and many more things.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Localization could even necessitate a comprehensive rethinking of logic, visual design, or presentation if the way of doing business or the accepted paradigm for learning in a given locale differs substantially from the originating culture.
