Interpretation is a vocal translation of the information delivered by vocal utterance and text (Shuttleworth & Cowie, 1997:82).

Typically interpretation means an extempore oral reproduction into one language from what is said in another language instantly and accurately. It is indeed a communicative activity with multiple participants: speaker, audience, and interpreter. The interpreter normally has the following multiple tasks: listening, analyzing, note-taking, understanding, restructuring, and production. In short, it is a conveyance of messages from the source language (SL) to the target language (TL).

Types of Interpretation  (by delivery mode):

  • Consecutive Interpretation
  • Simultaneous Interpretation
  • Whisper Interpretation
  • Sight Interpretation/ Sight Translation
